New Star Wars Trilogy Continues Skywalker Family Saga

It not major news but it does confirm a few suspicions. In an interview with Costco Connection (yep from the warehouse store), Kathleen Kennedy pretty much confirmed that at least one of the new characters is a Skywalker (but could be many since technically any kid(s) from Han & Leia would count too).

"The Saga films focus on the Skywalker family saga," she explains. "The stories follow a linear narrative that connects to the previous six films. The Force Awakens follows Return of the Jedi and continues that generational story. The Anthology films offer opportunities to explore fresh characters, new storylines and a variety of genres inside the Star Wars universe."

The beat makes perfect sense since eps 1-3 were about Anakin Skywalker, 4-6 were about his son Luke and daughter Leia and so 7-9 focusing on one or both of their children fits. It was something the Extended Universe did for 20 or so years before it was tossed into the trash.
