Rumored Star Wars Episode 7 Production Start Date

It looks like Star Wars Episode 7 may hit its expected 2015 release date, but instead of its traditional May release it will be a Christmas time release. According to the Latino Review, the rumored principal photography start date is January 21, 2015 to make a Christmas 2015 release date. Depending on the volume of special effects, the start date actually gives Disney the choice of Summer or Christmas depending on how the already crowded summer 2015 schedule shakes out. Other major releases include Superman vs Batman and Avengers 2.

I base this on the Transformers production schedules when principal photography starts about a year (early June) the year before) before its intended release date (late June), with post-production starting about 8 months before the intended release date (October). Considering that franchises' budget and special effects are in the same scope as Star Wars, then the extra 6 six months that the January start date is giving Star Wars should be more than enough breathing room for Disney to make an informed decision on the best release date to maximize their profits.

  1. Hi Mr J.J Abrams,

Just to start with saying for a new era the new star trek films are bold, dynamic and true to its name and origin. For the next generation to enjoy when reach the age of enjoying and understanding motion pictures, either on the big screen or sat at home on the blue ray or the future format. Like I did when I grew up and saw star trek for the first time. Have you considered to direct and help to recreate a new version of Starwars. You will have 6 films to at least play with. With Disney in toe the trilogy or more would be unstoppable and also learn from the little mistakes made in the original films. So that the next gen will enjoy and be inspired with both Star Trek and Starwars like we were in the latter years. If I wasn’t dyslexic I would have maybe had a better chance in completing my animation and electronic media degree and with my mind and ideas maybe got some where in my life. But when you have been so successful in your development and career don’t take second or third prize in carrying on with the Starwars begin it NEW! With a new team, new companies like Disney and the huge change in technology what will STOP you.

  2. No May 4th Release? That is a shame.... May the 4th still be with you anyways.
